Posted: 28 Apr 2009 11:04 AM PDT New York label 3sixteen went from a Streetwear t-shirt line to a contemporary casual Menswear in less than 3 season, adapting perfectly to the trends - Including into their collection, some great accessories, some denim, shoes and even some beauty products. Now they gives us an early look at their Fall 2009 collection with this really nice video-lookbook [below] |
Katie Gallagher Futuristic Collection Posted: 28 Apr 2009 10:09 AM PDT Interesting construction work from Katie Gallagher - This NY based designer created some skin-colored corsets disguised as futuristic exoskeleton rib cages, Super-Spandex waistbands, and elastic straps keeping the fabric impenetrably tight, Gallagher presents us with a striking vision of cloistered sexuality—a cold, provoking parody of nakedness. I can definitely see a some inspiration from Gareth Pugh and Yohji Yamamoto in her design - I also really like her fashion illustrations, looks like she draw her model like zombies, interesting technique for selling her collection… |
Posted: 28 Apr 2009 09:46 AM PDT We briefly introduced you to Mon Tsuki when we showed the urban preppy chic collection they designed for f/w 08/09, now here is a follow up for those that may have an appetite for quirky thematic design. The label is designed by Takehiro Nagasawa and Shintaro Fujikawa, nearly 20-year industry veterans, who represent Japan’s own fashion education system. The Tokyo Mode Institute graduates had mainly been focusing on womenswear until about 5 years ago when they introduced their mens collections. Since then they have been delivering mens collections full of color and generally drawing very direct infleunce from something they believe is trending. This season, ss09, is no different, with a collection title “Cycle Traditional”, they bring in as many elements of urban cycling as possible. There is definitly a strong reference to Tour de France, obvious with the hats and the color pallette. The collection definitly feels Japanese to in its sensibility to capture all the elements of a trend and recreate them. Few designers elsewhere have the nerve or design ethic to do things that way. |

Posted: 28 Apr 2009 08:48 AM PDT Secret Life of Sophia: Outside Maybe it takes living in a cold climate to fully appreciate the joy that the return of Spring can bring into life. Growing up in LA, I never had too much appreciation for the change of season. But now, living in NY, as winter turns to Spring, all I want to do is frolic around and make daisy chains for my hair. Brooklyn based band Secret Life of Sophia certainly understands this inclination. Their song “Outside” is a harmonic, ethereal ode to the beautiful outdoors, and the value of getting out to enjoy it. Posted: 27 Apr 2009 12:33 PM PDT Tailored to perfection and fabricated to make you swoon, Kostas Murkudis delivers yet another breathtaking, avant-garde/minimalist collection. Always finding a way to take a simple silhouette and make it into wearable art, Murkudis uses the autum/winter 09/10 collection to explore color-blocking through use of fabrication. Using poly/nylon as a contrast fabric on these sophisticated wool garments is exactly the kind of divergence Murkudis has made me anticipate in each upcoming collection of his.
